HOW HYDRATED ARE YOU?
-
Many medical authorities recommend we each drink 2 litres of water per day to remain hydrated.
-
Most mature adults lose about 2.5–3 litres of water per day. Water loss may be more in hot weather and with prolonged exercise.
-
In 1/3 of Aussies, the thirst mechanism is so weak that it is often mistaken for hunger.
-
Even MILD dehydration will slow down one's metabolism as much as 3% (limit mineral water consumption as they contain high sodium).
-
One glass of water shuts down midnight hunger pangs for almost 100% of dieters.
-
Lack of water is the #1 trigger of daytime fatigue.
-
Preliminary research indicates that 8-10 glasses of water a day could significantly ease back and joint pain for up to 80% of sufferers.
-
A mere 2% drop in body water can trigger fuzzy short-term memory, trouble with basic math, and difficulty focusing on the computer screen or on a printed page.
-
An air traveller can lose approximately 1.5 litres of water during a three-hour flight.
-
People who are hydrated are at less risk of developing kidney stones and in women urinary tract infections.
-
Fat cells cannot be broken down unless you are hydrated.
-
Drinking more water is the best method of reducing fluid retention.
-
Exercisers in hot weather need to pay close attention to hydration because they can lose two litres of fluid an hour just by sweating!
